Professional Background

Rob is the head of Technical Accounting Services with specialist knowledge in all aspects of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). He provides IFRS consulting services to the firm's clients, staff, and Moore Stephens offices throughout Australia and is a key author of firm's flagship publication, XYZ Model Financial Accounts.

He has written articles for the magazines of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, CPA Australia and the National Institute of Accountants ('the accounting bodies'). He also conducted the field testing for Australia on the implementation of the proposed accounting standard related to Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (IFRS for SME's) on behalf of the accounting bodies.

Rob spent five years working with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) where he was in charge of Financial Reporting Surveillance. He was responsible for the development and ongoing management of the Commission's National Financial Report Surveillance Project. He also led a team of accountants that were responsible for the identification and enforcement of non-compliance with financial reporting and auditor obligations, both within the surveillance project and in other aspects of ASIC's operations as the corporate regulator.

His role at the Commission also included:-

  • managing a team of officers responsible for the deliberation on matters of accounting and audit relief
  • chair of the ASIC Accounting & Audit Liaison Meetings
  • working with the Office of Chief Accountant and Office of General Counsel on formulating areas of financial reporting policy
  • provision of technical accounting and audit advice to the Commission's Enforcement and Compliance Directorates;  and
  • training and development of accounting and audit staff.

In 2004, Rob was rewarded with an Australian Day Achievement Medallion in recognition of his outstanding efforts as a public servant for ASIC.

Prior to joining Moore Stephens in 2007, Rob worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers where he was responsible for providing technical IFRS accounting, audit and corporations law advisory services to a variety of large private and public entities. He had responsibilities with respect to the preparation and presentation of materials for PwC training programs covering IFRS. He was also responsible for authoring PwC periodical information releases on financial reporting developments.

After graduating from Monash University, Rob first commenced his professional career with Moore Stephens in 1992 before departing in 2000 as Senior Audit and Technical Manager.
