Professional Background

Stephen was appointed as a partner in 1986, his legal and accounting qualifications enable him to provide expert commercial and taxation advice to a number of the firm's diverse clients. In 1996 he completed his Master of Tax Law complementing this expertise. Specialising in taxation matters, Stephen utilised his legal training to advise on areas including international business consulting, capital gains tax and other taxes as they affect property.

He maintains a number of private company directorships. This role involves the management of significant property assets and in meeting the needs of private family groups. As a director of Atech Holdings Pty Ltd (a company listed on the ASX), he has been involved in raising capital, trying to find new business, and in meeting ASX obligations. More recently he has assisted in establishing managed investment schemes.

He is the author of the Company Directors Manual, which is recommended by the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Stephen has been the Australian representative on the Moore Stephens Asia Pacific Committee and oversees the firm's international taxation consulting division. He is the Chairman of the Moore Stephens Australia Tax group.

Keeping abreast of recent tax developments such as the taxation of private groups, GST and the wider tax reforms impacting businesses, Stephen is often requested to speak at client seminars providing information on these complex areas.

Stephen has also represented the Performing Arts Industry in making submissions to the Senate Select Committee on GST and provided advice to the Australia Treasury in relation to Trust taxation. He has suggested reforms of Victorian land tax and advised for various arms of the Victorian government.
